It's New Year's Day, 2014. Joshua Rothchild, a young NYPD sergeant, and his officers respond to the city's first homicide of the year. The victim is a middle-aged ex-con, found riddled with bullets in a hallway. After an embarrassing mishap at the crime scene, Josh is soon bitten during a violent encounter with a suspect. He was already considering a career change, and recent events are pushing him to leave policing for good. Amid the flurry of police activity in their Brooklyn precinct, no one gives much thought to the New Year's Day homicide. But as the weeks go by, a dogged detective named Espinoza continues to investigate a murder that everyone else has forgotten. As a series of violent events unfolds, Josh begins to question his detachment and decides to help Espinoza with the murder investigation. But often the biggest danger to cops comes from within the shadowy labyrinth of the NYPD, such as higher-ups who are more concerned about their precinct's statistical performance than justice for the victims. Will Josh be able to leave a job he once loved with his head held high, or will he be crushed by the grinding gears of the department? If he really wants to help solve the murder, he'll have to put aside his preconceptions and dodge the bullets coming at him from all sides.
Autorenporträt
David Goldstein grew up in New York and attended Florida State University, where he earned a degree in Criminology along with many other prospective civil servants. After serving as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, David spent two and a half years as a patrol officer with the LAPD in Los Angeles. He then joined the NYPD and served in high-crime areas, mostly in northern Brooklyn, before becoming a Lieutenant/Platoon Commander in South Jamaica, Queens in 2020. After retiring from the NYPD, he served for four years as a campus police officer in Boston. Another Body in Brooklyn is David's debut crime novel. He decided to write this book because he has read too many unrealistic police procedurals. While this book has aspects of a murder mystery, it is really a story of the workings of a busy police precinct and the men and women who are tasked with being society's first line between order and chaos. He also wanted to showcase the tough work and even tougher decisions that patrol officers often have to make with limited time and resources.David is also the author of a book of short crime fiction, Back Alleys and Unauthorized Donut Shops. His upcoming science fiction book will be released in 2026.
