Imagine for a moment that everything you ever knew to be true might just be an illusion... This is the haunting realisation that faces Alison Maybridge, a mother of two, when she unexpectedly finds herself in the afterlife - a mirror like world where secrets are revealed and nothing remains hidden. Under the guidance of an enigmatic goddess, Persephone, Alison embarks on an inner journey. As she gazes into her past, she encounters different facets of herself reflected in the ancient stories of gods and goddesses. At first glance, these appear as wondrous fairy tales - but upon closer examination, their underlying tones reveal dark forces whose very presence casts a veil over her eyes. Caught in an endless battle between ego and authentic self, she must make a choice - surrender to the illusions or fight to rediscover the truth of her identity. Joined by Ian, a computer genius with secrets of his own, Alison's journey of self-discovery becomes a quest to break the illusions that imprison not only her, but all of humanity-before a cosmic war resets reality itself. Reality and Other Illusions is a mesmerising work of mythic fiction: a journey of magic, transformation, and spiritual awakening that dares you to look beyond the veil and question the nature of reality itself. Length: 105,000 words 316 pages
Autorenporträt
Johanne Shepherd was born in 1956 in Sydney and spent her early years in the coastal suburb of Avalon. After moving to Canberra, she completed her studies at the Australian National University and the University of Canberra. In 1981, a course on Raja Yoga meditation sparked an interest in the spiritual path, leading her to travel through India and China to explore their ancient traditions. Her fascination with Greek mythology and archetypes arose years later, after reading Goddesses in Everywoman, by Jean Shinoda Bolen. A lifelong writer, Johanne began formally studying the craft a decade ago, weaving together her interests in spirituality, mythology and storytelling. She lives in rural New South Wales, where she continues to write and reflect amidst the quiet rhythms of nature.
