16/9: When You've Used Up Sixteen Of Your Nine Lives Near misses and a few direct hits. Brushes with mortality. Enjoy! It would seem fitting, as my toe in the water of the world of writing, to describe a number of events which could have precluded me from telling my story. Mercifully, for me, they didn't, leading to the birth of this ditty. I hope you enjoy it, that it stimulates your thoughts as to what a lottery life can be and perhaps allows reflection on you and yours as you forge forward. It is also my intention that this yarn be a forerunner to a suite of further offerings which shall include, but not be limited to, some the titles listed below, which shall also be found on www.lulu.com quite soon. With every good wish, Enjoy! Vic Baxter From Under An African Sky: Rip snorting yarns and rumbustious tales from a childhood in Africa, over a decade in the oil industry and ensuing years in a number of amazing countries! Ticklish Tales from Non-Tourist Destinations: A look back with laughter, spanning fifty years and almost as many countries, including the Americas, the four corners of Africa, the Caspian, the Middle East and parts of Europe.
Autorenporträt
Vic Baxter is an amazing man who has led a truly amazing life. I have known him for five years, and I'm now his business partner, but did not really know much about his past life until I read the draft of his autobiography "From Under an African Sky" which I could not put down, since its content match those of any "thriller", and its style 'grabs you by the throat'. I am sure that film rights beckon! To say that Vic has had a 'varied and interesting career' is a gross understatement. Afflicted by polio at the age of two, he never let this hold him back, despite other early setbacks that would have destroyed a lesser man. He was born and brought up in Kenya, where he lived until he was eighteen, after which he pursued a wide range of careers that took him to all parts of the world. For much of his life, he worked in different sectors of the oil and gas industry, learning his trade with Shell before moving on to a series of other major organisations, including Exxon, Chevron, BP, SABIC, Vickers Oceanics, 2W Diving, Hawker Siddeley, ABB, ASCO, Seatech, UKTI and SDI. After this he moved to Drake, Beam, Morin, the 'inventors of outplacement' (career counselling for senior managers), working as Managing Consultant of their Aberdeen office for over six years. He then decided to branch out on his own, founding and running a number of consultancy companies, including Quo Vadis Ventures Ltd. and Quo Vadis Professionals, the one we set up together in 2016. This is involved in a wide range of exciting projects, including the publication of books and other materials. We have in train, for example, a linked quartet of books on 'effective consultancy'. As I have said earlier, Vic's autobiography is a fascinating, highly enjoyable read, which I heartily recommend to everyone who likes a good story - and a true one to boot! The vignette that follows is simply a taster. Emeritus Professor Henry Ellington
