Jodene L. Smith, M.A., has worked for over 30 years in education, as both as classroom teacher and more recently as an instructional coach for kindergarten through second grade teachers. She supports teachers in understanding why and how to implement the science of reading in their literacy instruction. In addition, Jodene develops curriculum and has authored a wide range of resources that translate educational research into practical classroom strategies, including What the Science of Reading Says: Literacy Strategies for Early Childhood. Jessica Hathaway, M.S.Ed., earned her B.A. in Psychology from Pomona College and her M.S. in Education from Northwestern University, with a concentration in literacy. She has conducted classroom-based research on the integration of different learning modalities into literacy instruction and spent several years working in the Los Angeles Unified School District teaching early elementary, instructing art enrichment classes, and mentoring novice teachers. Currently, Jessica enjoys writing and publishing educational texts and spending time with her husband and two young daughters.
