At the age of thirty-five, Jeannie Middleton received a gift, a lovely baby girl named Madelene, who came into Jeannie's life bringing her and her family immeasurable joy. But that joy was shattered by the impact of Madelene's drug addiction and abuse, both before her birth and as she grew to adulthood. This short story follows that wonderful yet tragic part of Jeannie's life, watching her daughter grow and struggle with internal pain and addiction, her efforts to save her, and her crushed hopes. Jeannie hopes reading her story will help increase other parents' awareness of drug abuse, understanding the signs of addiction, and the importance of seeking education on this critical part of parenting.
One of ten children, Jeannie Middleton was born and raised in New York City, along with her identical twin sister and best friend, Jayne. The family moved to Richmond Hills, Queens, when they were ten and their parents bought their first house. It was like moving into a mansion! Attending college, she first graduated with a nursing degree, and then with a degree in psychology. Jeannie loves spending time with family and friends, enjoying backyard barbeques and the simply things in life. But most of all she enjoys helping to solve everyone's problems and being there for someone who is in need of a friend. She currently lives in Lindenhurst, Long Island, with her husband of 30 years, and together they have a son, three lovely grandchildren, three German shepherds, and two cats.
