Autorenporträt
Australian author Elaine M Black writes a deeply personal exploration of her life thus far. Now in her 70's, Elaine reflects on her life's journey that has come full circle back to Albury, New South Wales where she was born. Elaine explores her itinerant childhood, her adolescence, her nursing career and the personal struggles she faced as she made her rapid entry into adulthood. An early, unplanned pregnancy and subsequent unsuccessful marriage, closely followed by the untimely death of her only brother Bruce. She acknowledges her eventual alcohol dependency and the treatment she sought. She discusses the challenges she faced when her second husband Damian, was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease at the age of 48 in 1998, and a few short years later, the diagnosis of Damian's Frontal Lobe Dementia. Elaine explores the changes felt in a loving relationship when a spouse, through no fault of their own, is unable to relate as they once had. She shares what happened to her, not only in her new role as carer, but when she reconnected and fell in love with someone whom she'd known 50 years earlier. Throughout the memoir Elaine reflects on the threads of connection with people and places that are woven, sometimes mysteriously, into the fabric of her life.
