A surprise inheritance. A spontaneous adventure riddled with twists and turns. A friendship that stands the test of time. Kate and Jane have been best friends since college, but years of distance and life's demands have kept them apart. When Kate unexpectedly inherits a fortune, she invites Jane on a whirlwind trip-a chance to escape routine, rekindle their bond, and embrace the unknown. But as they navigate foreign streets and old memories, long-buried truths surface, forcing them to confront the past and the choices that could shape their future. This journey isn't just about travel-it's about second chances, self-discovery, and the enduring power of friendship. Author Elizabeth Barnes originally wrote 5 Months and Counting as a way to support her good friend during chemotherapy, offering her a mental escape while she sat through treatments. What began as a personal gift has now become a heartfelt novella, shared with the world as a reminder of the healing power of love, laughter, and adventure.
Elizabeth Barnes is a debut American writer, who lives in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was born and raised, mostly in Africa, due to her father's position as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer. She is married and has two children, both grown and on their own. Elizabeth has used her creative writing skills throughout her 30+ year career and dabbled in creative writing while in college. Her inspiration to write 5 Months and Counting came coincidentally but with the encouragement of friends and colleagues, she is debuting with plans to continue this writing journey.
