51 Ways to Express Love to Yourself by Jarell Howard Rochelle IV is a heartfelt exploration of self-love as a spiritual journey grounded in faith, resilience, and intentional self-care. Through vivid personal stories- including Rochelle's unconventional yet beautiful wedding, the raw lessons of fatherhood, career pivots, relational heartbreaks, and financial challenges- this book offers readers a transparent look at how growth often emerges from life's darkest and most difficult moments. What sets this book apart is its intentional pacing. Rather than a daily devotional, Jarell offers weekly reflections. Each entry provides practical tools and thoughtful questions designed to be absorbed slowly, without pressure or rush. Rochelle's approach is rooted in personal experience: having once been in remedial reading and language arts classes, he deeply understands the value of taking time with one subject to truly process and internalize it. This isn't a sprint- it's an invitation to move at your own rhythm. In today's fast-paced, social media-driven world, Rochelle provides bite-sized prompts - each designed to take less than a minute to read-so readers can reflect deeply without being overwhelmed. Throughout the book, Rochelle guides readers through essential topics like grounding, embracing life's challenges, setting boundaries, and honoring their self-worth. At its core, this journey is anchored in a profound trust in God and a call to align one's life with divine purpose. Rochelle's message is clear: true self-love is not selfish- it's essential. It is the foundation upon which we can live fully, overcome adversity, and love others authentically. 51 Ways to Express Love to Yourself meets readers exactly where they are, offering accessible, reflective tools for real life. Rochelle's honest storytelling, spiritual insight, and lived experience create a safe space for readers to explore self-love through God's lens-with grace, patience, and courage.
Autorenporträt
Jarell Howard Rochelle is a groundbreaking educator, performer, and now debut author whose devotional blends faith, emotional honesty, and lived experience. He became the first Black male to graduate summa cum laude from The University of Texas, earning his MFA on scholarship while unapologetically documenting his Hip Hop street dance journey through academic channels-including a nationally televised feature on PBS's Blackademics. Jarell later shared his story on the TEDx stage, and his movement artistry has been showcased on So You Think You Can Dance. He is the sole creator of Xpression, a pedagogy rooted in emotional authenticity through Hip Hop. At Salem State University, he grounds his teaching and artistry in this philosophy, inspiring students to explore identity, purpose, and healing through dance and dialogue. Now stepping boldly into authorship, Jarell presents his debut devotional, inspired by the scripture: "Love your neighbor as you love yourself." In writing it, he wrestled with a deeper question: What if we've never been taught how to love ourselves in the first place? This book answers that call-offering reflections, revelations, and realness for anyone seeking meaning, peace, and transformation.Beyond the classroom and stage, Jarell treasures time with his wife (Madeline Rochelle) and three children (Addelynn, Jaelynn & Pheobe Rochelle), whether touring libraries as a performing family or enjoying life's everyday joys. In every medium-movement, mentorship, or the written word-his mission is the same: to build a legacy of love, expression, and radical honesty.
