This book presents a 1970's inquiry into lingering value conflicts resulting from the turbulent 1960's. It draws upon observations of Dr. Jim Schnell (Ph.D., Ohio University, 1982) in relation to his study of countercultural themes in the United States, particularly those stemming from the dynamic 1960's when many fundamental social institutions were questioned. This included field study at The Farm, a flagship countercultural hippie commune near Summertown, Tennessee that grew from beginnings in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco. This understanding is nested within his larger understanding of global countercultural phenomena, particularly in China and Cambodia. He was a Fulbright Scholar to Cambodia, completed three visiting fellowships at the East-West Center in Honolulu and has logged over 20 trips to China under the auspices of his serving as a military attache in Beijing, China. The latter was in relation to his 30 years service in the U.S. intelligence community. He has also held teaching posts at Beijing Jiaotong University, Ohio State University, Royal University of Phnom Penh, University of Cincinnati and Miami University.
