She thought her husband's death was the worst of it. But then Emma discovers he wasn't the only thing lost when the PS Mary B sank. Now his shady activities threaten ruin for her nearest and dearest. Devastated by what is happening she'll do anything she can to fix it, but she can't face her family with the threat of losing Wirramilla. Now Nella is angry with her for tackling the problem alone, and Daniel is laying the blame for it all on her shoulders. Emma has never felt so alone or so desperate as she searches for an answer. As every path she follows fails she fears Nella may be right and the only person she can call on for help is Daniel. With the Major's deadline looming can she convince her angry brother-in-law to risk his reputation before she becomes a pariah to her family? And has she really heard the last of that old promise?
Irene is a retired historian living in Perth, Western Australia where she writes historical cozy mysteries. Under her pen name Rennae Todd she also writes modern cozies.Irene grew up on a vineyard and orange orchard in New South Wales by the Murray River, where she was an avid reader, and started writing stories when she was nine years old (including some really dreadful poetry). Now living in Western Australia, she has three children and four grandchildren, and a sister who beta reads her books for plot holes and to see how quickly she can solve the mystery (so far she's not winning). When not writing, Irene reads, watches tennis, plays croquet (old age and treachery will defeat youth and enthusiasm every time) and has a reasonably green thumb, which means very little dies in her garden, unlike in her cozy mysteries.
