In the world of overseas Christian service, Kua Wee Seng is one of the lesser-known major participants. This is partly because he is humble, unpretentious, and collaborative and partly because he has been a quiet achiever in a country away from the missiological spotlight. For nearly thirty years, most of his time had been spent as Director of the United Bible Societies China Partnership. The team he coordinated, in partnership with the churches in China, has helped distribute nearly a hundred million copies of the Scriptures, some in minority ethnic languages; set up Bible-based literacy programs in many provinces; assisted pastors and lay preachers to become better trained; and provided written and online resources for ordinary believers, including those with disabilities. Kua has been an effective bridge-builder between Chinese Christian leaders, state religious authorities, and provincial church pastors. He also organized and led delegations of government ministers and denominational officials to and from China. Additionally, he helped establish an annual International Seminar on the Bible in Chinese Society in Shanghai that brings together university scholars, urban pastors, and seminary staff and students. This book draws together over a dozen contributions from his associates around the world. It also contains a succinct account of his life and work by the editors and three reflections by Kua Wee Seng himself.
