Mhairead MacLeod's writing is inspired by the lives of real historical figures - ordinary people who have found themselves in extraordinary circumstances - but also by her personal experience. Like the main character in her novel, she made the journey from Scotland to Cairns when young, and built a career in the tropics. A Hospital in the Clouds has received national and international screenwriting awards. Her previous historical novel, The False Men, has received and been shortlisted for two national manuscript awards.Before becoming a novelist, Mhairead MacLeod was a lawyer and lecturer. www.mhaireadmacleod.com
