The mediating role played by teachers, in general and especially chemistry teachers in the classroom, is revealed in their interaction with their students. In this sense, it is up to the teacher to bring the learner closer to the object to be learned, i.e. chemical knowledge, as well as providing reflections on the knowledge itself, placing it in contrast with what is called "common sense" and which is certainly part of the students' cultural baggage. The aim of these reflections should be to give students a critical profile of their own reality, giving them the tools to consciously participate actively in their daily lives and not just be another spectator. The importance of subject-specific knowledge is indisputable, but this knowledge alone is insufficient, so it is clear that there must be a range of knowledge that the teacher mobilizes in a lesson.
