A graduate of Merton College, Oxford, he began his career as a journalist before transitioning into academia, eventually securing a professorship at the University of Edinburgh, where he taught from 1895 to 1915. Saintsbury's prolific output includes the comprehensive 'A History of English Prosody' and 'A History of Criticism', among numerous other scholarly articles and texts. His 'A Letter Book' adds to the canon of his work as a testament to his literary scholarship and his contribution to the preservation and interpretation of epistolary forms.
