Our story begins when a young boy, Riley and his Pop, Paul follow Ed Pratt a unicyclist travelling around the world. When Ed passed through Adelaide he stayed at Nan and Pop's house and Riley was fascinated with the stories he heard and asked Pop if they could have their own adventure. Let's ride from Adelaide to Melbourne. The Dream was born. A year passed and a now 7-year-old Riley asked if they could get started, so a road bike was purchased, and training begun. Everyone was amazed that a young boy had the stamina to ride 100kms and more in a day. People begun following Riley's social media and cheering him on. Planning begun and a charity to support was chosen, The Little Heroes Foundation who support sick children. A safety car and driver were arranged to keep the riders safe, and sponsors generously gave products and services. A detailed schedule now in place enabled Riley to be clear about each day's ride and to book accommodation. Riley had his 8th birthday and came up with our slogan:8 years old8 days800km$8000 Training continued and both Riley and Pop became fitter and stronger riding most weekends. These rides were getting faster and longer, usually 100km - 200km. Now we were ready to head to Melbourne as we had changed the direction so we would end in Adelaide giving our followers the opportunity to celebrate the big finish. Arriving in Melbourne ready to start the ride and make Riley's dream come true just as Covid-19 had begun. Day one Melbourne to Ballarat proved to be just as difficult as expected, with a big 21km climb. After celebrating this achievement, we were shocked to hear that the South Australian Government announced the closure of the border with Victoria. How to cross the border in time and would we be able to continue? It was decided to change our route and get to Nhill the next day in order to cross the border on our bikes before the cut of time and then find out from the authorities what we would need to do. Unfortunately, that would require us to abandon part of the ride and travel by car. When we crossed the border now back on the bikes, we were informed that we could continue to ride in South Australia. The journey continued as planned for the rest of the trip allowing for now strict Covid rules. 651kms in 6 days. No celebrations with friends and family were permitted it was just as if we had been forgotten in everything else that was going on. Returning home feeling proud of his achievements Riley and the team were also disappointed that part of the journey had to be cut out and the fundraising had fallen slightly short of target. Not quite satisfied Riley decided that via social media he would ask people to set him challenges for donations and it worked he raised $8300. Now to end this story Riley decided to set himself a challenge "Riley's longest ride". One month before his 9th birthday Riley and his Pop with the safety car once again following rode from Adelaide to Edithburgh 240km in 9 hours 30 minutes.
