Testing has proven to be a fundamental activity in software development, mainly to prevent failures from reaching users, leaving them dissatisfied and impacting the business. However, this activity is difficult and costly to carry out, since the set of inputs and outputs of a piece of software is diverse and there are many possible paths to be tested. Therefore, as the size and complexity of systems grow, the need to use methodologies for test management and planning increases. This paper presents the main concepts of software testing, delving into a particular type of testing, called regression testing. It will also propose a process for prioritizing regression test cases from a set of existing tests, with the aim of reducing the scope of the test cycle so that the potentially most relevant test cases are prioritized.
