Meet Xavier, a bright and joyful kindergartener with Angelman Syndrome who's here to tell you all about his world and his friends who share it. A Special Kind of Happy gently introduces young readers to Angelman Syndrome by showing how kids like Xavier might communicate differently, need help getting around, or learn in unique ways. But it also highlights how much they have in common with their peers-like a love for bubbles, music, animals, and hugs. This heartwarming picture book encourages empathy, inclusion, and understanding, making it a valuable classroom or library tool. It also shines a light on International Angelman Day, a worldwide celebration of awareness held each February 15. With its cheerful tone and accessible language, A Special Kind of Happy invites readers to see the beauty in differences and to celebrate what makes each of us special.
Autorenporträt
Jessica Colton wrote A Special Kind of Happy to help children better understand and connect with classmates who have Angelman Syndrome-beginning with her own son. When she couldn't find a book that explained the condition in a way young children could relate to, she decided to create one herself. Jessica is passionate about raising awareness and developing resources that promote inclusion for children with rare diagnoses. She lives in Ennismore, Ontario with her husband, stepson, and son, who inspired this heartfelt book.
