Capture beautiful and intentional photographs for documenting young children’s lives. In this book, author Ron Grady invites teachers to reflect on their own practice as educators using what is one of the most accessible but perhaps least deeply considered practices of documentation: photography. Photography is an accessible and powerful tool for reflection and documentation, and children’s day-to-day experiences in settings of care and education deserve to be captured with intense attention. The book is arranged as a series of artistic workshops that invites early childhood educators through a course in photography, considering its practice, its documentational potential, its aesthetic and logistical challenges, and its creative possibilities.
Ron Grady's work focuses on the social worlds and peer cultures of young children and wonders how lived experience both is constructed within and revealed throughout play, the creation of art and narrative, and through interaction with/production of visual artifacts such as photography and film. Ron's work also strives to invite educators into practices rooted in reflection, inquiry, and creativity. Ron is pursuing a doctorate at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and prior to his studies, worked as a preschool teacher in New Orleans. He also holds a Master's in Early Education from the Erikson Institute and a Bachelor's in Psychology from Stanford University.
