Adventures, Barbarians, and Devil's Breath is the place where everyone should embark on a wild and whimsical journey. Follow the interconnected lives of eccentric characters who come into contact with the white-haired, blue-eyed, slightly pot-bellied Englishman with a pair of sturdy-looking legs who speaks little Spanish. His enigmatic nature and unexpected encounters will keep you turning the pages. In Part 1, Adventurous Tales from a Few Mountain Walks, a climate-change-induced earthquake shakes up the Andes Mountain Ridge, bringing together a diverse cast of colourful individuals, from a singing Nun to a street man with no memory, a thirsty Colibri, flying cows, a third-generation Kenworth truck driver, a bold senora on a quad bike, a satellite thinking kite, and a Chilean wine bottle longing for adventure, there's a character for everyone in this South American adventure. In Part 2, At last, the Barbarians are sleeping. Amidst storms, mudslides, and flooding, the Museo de Fenix becomes a sanctuary for the city's older population, intertwining human and animal experiences against a backdrop of turmoil. In Part 3, Devil's Breath Claims New Victims, Conquistadors and Rebel Generals discover the true meaning of adventure and friendship as they venture through historical tales from Cartagena to Santa Marta, uncovering secrets of their past. Autorenporträt
Mike Bowley was born in Bristol, in the South West of England, in 1955. Up to the age of 13, he could not read or write. However, an English Teacher took him under her wing, and she spent the next 3 years ensuring he had the gift of being able to read & write. He believed this heroine saved him from a life of crime. This early struggle with literacy would later become a source of inspiration for his writing, as he drew on his own experiences to create anthropomorphism compelling narratives. At the age of 10, Mike boldly asked his father for 'Pocket money.' His father's response was not what he expected, but it instilled in him a valuable lesson: he wanted something, and he had to earn it. This marked the beginning of his journeyman professions, starting with being a 'Milk Delivery Boy' and 'Newspaper Delivery Boy', both at the same time. His resilience and determination were already shaping his future. This workload, for such a young mind, also contributed to his often falling asleep during classes.Mike is a man of dedication and hard work. He has been working tirelessly, and his many stories and experiences have become the foundation of his numerous culminating short stories. His commitment to his craft is truly admirable. As Mike entered his 60s, he felt the call of another adventure. Little did he know that it would lead him to the vibrant and diverse country of Colombia in South America. His adventurous spirit was about to embark on a new journey. In the decade since he has lived in the vast and beautiful tropical country of Colombia, he has married for the third time, trained to be a Barista, passed his Colombian driving test, Passed his UK truck driving test, became a self-trained SEO Content Writer, and is now an author of anthropomorphism-styled short stories. The latter he puts down to an accident he had in 2016 where he did severe damage to his head in a fall down the local Dapa mountain ridge, which overlooks the city of Cali below. This accident, while initially a setback, sparked a 7-year surge of creativity in Mike, leading to his newfound passion for storytelling. His imagination went wild, and the result was his first outing, "Adventures, Barbarians, and Devil's Breath. This will soon be followed by his forthcoming sequel, "Liberators and Their Mighty Sabres."A third book is in the pipeline, and it has no name yet. However, the first 16 chapters are already mapped out, and his fingers are waiting to touch a keyboard. If you love South America or have never experienced such a vibrant and incredible continent, you will love delving into this author's imagination. Mike's writing is a unique blend of features, objects, historical people, historical events, and characters from his experiences and imagination. It's not a travel guide but a journey through the mind of someone who has embraced and celebrated all that he has experienced in such a short time.
