A brutally honest, humorous, and sometimes heartbreaking memoir of growing up in mid-20th-century America. Kenneth Chatfield recounts vivid memories of mischief, love, rebellion, and lessons learned the hard way-from sneaking moonshine and blowing up police cars to falling in love with teachers and navigating small-town life. Told with wit and unfiltered storytelling, Adventures of a Common Man explores a boy's wild journey into manhood with charm, grit, and unapologetic candor.

About the Author Kenneth Chatfield was born into a simpler time, when neighborhoods were tight-knit, phones had cords, and kids played outside until the streetlights came on. Growing up in Ohio as the second of five children, he quickly learned that being "the middle kid" often meant being misunderstood, overlooked or, in his case, the one who got in the most trouble. While his siblings seemed to dodge the wrath of "Dad", Kenneth somehow managed to attract it, often in the name of falling short of his father's towering expectations. In a world of black-and-white TVs, penny candy, and unspoken rules, Kenneth carved out a youth that was equal parts mischief and magic. From small-town scuffles and scraped knees to big dreams that rarely lined up with the rules at home, his life was anything but ordinary. A move to Indiana before his senior year of high school upended everything again, but he found his way out, first to the University of Cincinnati, and eventually out of Ohio altogether after the unforgiving Blizzard of '78 pushed him south to South Carolina. Today, he enjoys retirement in Nevada, reflecting on a life full of stories worth telling.Adventures of A Common Man is a spirited, embellished (but honest at heart) collection of those memories, snapshots of a bygone era seen through the eyes of a boy trying to make sense of the world and his place in it. With humor, grit, and a good dose of self-deprecation, Kenneth invites readers to remember their own childhoods, or imagine what it was like to grow up in a time when life was tough, but the stories were golden.
