Fourteen yr-old orphan, Cassandra Stone, had a miserable childhood being shuffled between foster homes, always alone with only a grocery-bag of clothes and a growing rock collection. At twelve, she is finally adopted, but tragedy strikes again when at fourteen, she discovers she is a fairy and in the wrong world. She vows to use her new found magical power to bring back home to Peridonia, all the other orphaned fairies in the human world to where they belong. Fortunately the enchanted Kingdom of Peridonia is camouflaged right across the street. Two parallel worlds, one human-one magical on the same street. Escape to Peridonia is the first book in this middle-grade / young adult fantasy fiction series, Adventures of the Stone Collector by Pam Van Scoyoc and Pam's debut MG/YA novel.
Because of a visual problem, Pam, the child, was not a reader, but an artist and a dreamer. She learned by hearing and endured years of embarrassment when asked to read. She also expended tremendous effort hiding her "failure" to read well. Over the years she worked as an artist, floral designer and a seamstress while raising a family. This is when she got hooked on books reading to her own children and then novels. In 1993 her husband of 29 years, passed and stories flooded her mind and kept coming, compelling her to write them down. Pam says it was God's gift to help her through her grief. She has been writing ever since. "It's pure joy to discover a character and watch them bloom on the page, to visit their world and feel the drama in their lives. I am so blessed," says Pam. "What a life-what a journey!"
