This book states that current developments in air pollution modeling are explored as a series of contributions from researchers at the forefront of their field. This newest contribution on air pollution modeling and its application is focused on local, urban, regional and intercontinental modeling; long-term modeling and trend analysis; data assimilation and air quality forecasting; model assessment and evaluation; aerosol transformation. Additionally, this work also examines the relationship between air quality and human health and the effects of climate change on air quality. This work is a collection of selected papers presented at the 40th International Technical Meeting on Air Pollution Modeling and its Application, held in Copenhagen, Denmark, October 14–18, 2024. The book is intended as reference material for students and professors interested in air pollution modeling at the graduate level as well as researchers and professionals involved in developing and utilizing air pollution models.
Autorenporträt
Professor Clemens Mensink is a research director of the Environmental Intelligence unit at VITO in Belgium. VITO is an independent Flemish research organization in the area of cleantech and sustainable development with the goal to accelerate the transition to a sustainable world.  Clemens received his Ph.D. (1992) and a postgraduate degree (1988) in fluid dynamics from the Von Karman Institute in Belgium. He studied chemical engineering, fluid mechanics and numerical mathematics and received his M.Sc. (1987) in mechanical engineering from University of Twente in the Netherlands. In 1998, he received the ENERO prize. Clemens currently serves as the president of the International Technical Meeting on Air Pollution Modeling and its Applications. He is an expert in air pollution modeling and author of more than 80 peer-reviewed publications in international journals. He is a professor atmospheric modeling at Ghent University in Belgium   Dr. Ulas Im is a senior scientist at the Department of Environmental Sciences in Aarhus University, Denmark. He received his bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering in Yildiz Technical University, Turkey, in 2000, and MSc (2203) and PhD (2009) degrees from Bogazici University, Turkey, in the field of environmental sciences. Dr. Im studies global to regional modelling of atmospheric aerosols and their interactions with clouds, climate, and health. He has more than 70 peer-reviewed publications in international journals. Dr. Im serves as steering committee member of the International Technical Meeting on Air Pollution Modeling and its Applications, and convener of the Air Pollution Modelling session in the European Geophysical Union (EGU).
