Wednesday meets Loki: A Bad God's Guide to Being Good in the first book in an hilarious new adventure series about ordinary kid and reluctant vampire Alex Abbott by debut author Louise Austin. Perfect for readers of 8 to 12. Despite all the cool powers that come with being undead, accident-prone Alex is not happy. It's hard keeping secrets from best friends Archie and Mia, there's no getting out of school and, worst of all, vampires can't eat chips, chocolate or ice-cream! Determined to find a cure, Alex blunders into the supernatural world, breaks a centuries-old pact that protects the town and accidentally extinguishes thirty-two tiny fire sprites. It could happen to anyone! Sent on an epic journey to right these wrongs, Alex discovers there might be a way to become human again: by making a deal with an ancient fire demon in Sicily. Can Alex and friends outwit the demon or will the price of Alex's new life be the end of the world as they know it?
Louise Austin is a reformed lawyer from Kent who is the mother of three book-devourers and a devoted servant to her fluffy white cavapoo. A graduate of Oxford University, she is passionate about encouraging a love of reading and works part-time in a primary school, where she haunts the book corner helping kids discover new stories. Her writing was selected for SCBWI Undiscovered Voices 2024 and won the Cornerstones PWA prize for most promising longlisted manuscript in the Bath Children's Novel Awards 2022. Katie Kear is an illustrator currently living in the beautiful Cotswolds with her partner and Pembroke Welsh Corgi who's called Toastie, because if a burnt loaf of bread grew little legs and a whole lot of personality, it'd be him! She graduated from the University of Gloucestershire with a First Class degree in Illustration, and loves drawing, adventures in nature, stationery and finding new inspirational artists!
