An American Sketch is a 76,000-word travelogue describing a four-month, 16,500-mile motorcycle tour of North America in 2024. While motorcycling and landscape are the common denominators, the articles also comment on the cultural, social, and political landscape, past and present. Food and drink feature prominently. More specifically, the author went to a lot of bars and restaurants... The author, David Tymm returned to riding motorcycles in 2000, aged 37, when he was still young enough to enjoy his mid-life crisis. Since then, he has toured Europe extensively with occasional North American visits. Previously, he has contributed to the BMW Owners Club Journal, written articles to support various charities he's been involved with, and features for trade publications in a professional capacity. He also writes for a magazine for London-exiled supporters of Burnley Football Club, most recently as their self-appointed TV, film and restaurant critic, having long since run out of incisive comments about football. Previously, he founded and ran i-movo, a pioneering Secure Digital Voucher company based in the UK with clients across central and local government, utilities, newspaper publishing and consumer goods. i-movo was acquired by a UK public company in November 2020.
