Yvonne Dagger is an award winning artist and author of children's books. Her paintings can be found in many collections nationally and have appeared in numerous gallery shows, as well as being featured on several magazine covers. Dagger was inducted into the MHS Hall of Fame in 2011 for her Artistic & Community Service. In addition, Yvonne was named "Woman of the Year 2013" by the Town of Oyster Bay and by Nassau County, respectively. She is a member of Hofstra University's Golden Key International Honor Society, and on the Canine Companions Northeast Region Board of Directors.In 2015, Yvonne taught her dog Dagger how to paint. He became known world-wide as an accomplished artist. This led to an exciting journey for Yvonne and Dagger. The two were on the Rachael Ray Show, Inside Edition, receiver of ABC's Hidden Heroes Award (Dagger was the only non-human to receive this prestigious award) and featured on the PBS Specials "Shelter Me ~ The Art of Kindness and Dog Mountain." In 2023, Dagger was the first dog named for Newsday's "Faces of Long Island." With Yvonne as his handler, Dagger created over 900 works of art and donated more than $215,000 to charity. Inducted into the Animal Heroes Hall of Fame in 2021, Dagger continued creating works of art until his death in 2023. Yvonne teamed up with Anna Roy, the President of the AHHOF to create a Podcast "Howling Talent" which introduces listeners to owners of talented animals who share their pets' amazing accomplishments with the world. Yvonne is the author of a series of children's books written about her lovable dog, Dagger, and his journey in becoming a famous artist. "An Artist Is Born" is a true-life adventure of an exceptional dog. A second book of the series, "An Artist In Paris," continues Dagger's story as he meets new friends who join him in warm-hearted, zany adventures. It will be published in September 2025. Yvonne became a Canine Companions Therapy Dog Handler in March 2024, with her newly adopted dog, Picasso. Together they are continuing Dagger's legacy of education and community service.
