Of the available alternatives, wind energy has emerged as one of the most established technologies. However, the output of wind energy conversion systems (WECS) depends upon environmental conditions which by nature are erratic and unpredictable. Of the available alternatives, wind energy has emerged as one of the most established technologies. However, the output of wind energy conversion systems (WECS) depends upon environmental conditions which by nature are erratic and unpredictable. So the development of the most appropriate control scheme and ensuring a reliable WECS is a major challenge, and it is a focused area of my project. However, the efficacy of the control scheme can be assured by several experiments with an actual wind turbine (WT) but dependency on an actual wind turbine is ultimately dependent on environmental conditions. Such dependencies may be liable to cause an indefinite delay in the occurrence of experimental results for analysis purposes. Even, several worst cases for which the system needs to be tested may never occur and thus performance and reliability of controllers for those cases are always questionable. Another way is to set up a Wind Turbine in the lab. However, it is difficult to set up a WT in the laboratory because of challenges like space and a controlled environment. A solution to these problems can be found in a Wind Turbine Emulator.
