India stands as one of the fastest developing countries in the production of renewable energy resources among the other Asian countries. Hence, this work aims to give a precise review of the technological advancements and research progresses in the field of renewable energy resources of India. Also to view the renewable energy production in the country, a detailed case study is done on Maharashtra's renewable energy resources, one of the populous state in India. The renewable energy resources of Maharashtra has been fast-developing over the recent years. Owing to proper planning and endless contribution, Maharashtra ranks 4th in renewable energy production in the country. A review approach based on literature classification and a detailed analysis of the selected studies are utilized for a comprehensive review. The main observations of this work are Research progress and technological advancements in India and the list of governmental policies to promote renewable energy resources is illustrated.
