This book sets out to decipher, both factually and critically, the extreme energy dependence of the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo on imports of petroleum products via the Mombasa and Dar es Salaam corridors. It will show how the analysis of energy dependence sheds light on the power dynamics between multinationals and national players, paves the way for the examination, in the following chapter, of the oil leadership strategies adopted by these firms within the Great Lakes, and opens up the question of future diversification scenarios, which the eastern DRC could envisage to strengthen its energy sovereignty.has two clear objectives: firstly, to draw up a factual quantitative and qualitative inventory of the oil supply chain between 1994 and 2024, identifying the volumes, bottlenecks and trade-offs that explain the predominance of the Kenyan and Tanzanian corridors; secondly, to shed light on the socio-economic and environmental consequences of this dependence on the eastern region, in order to conclude with a global diagnosis.
