Luiz Eduardo L. Melo est titulaire d'un diplôme en technologie agro-industrielle avec une spécialisation en bois de l'université d'État du Pará. Il est titulaire d'une maîtrise et d'un doctorat en science et technologie du bois de l'université fédérale de Lavras. Il est actuellement professeur au département de technologie et de ressources naturelles de l'université d'État du Pará (UEPA).
