Rachel Biale grew up on kibbutz Kfar Ruppin in Israel, where her parents settled in 1946, following their voyage on the Atlantic, incarceration in Mauritius, and arrival in Palestine.She is the author of the award-winning Women in Jewish Law (1984); a memoir: Growing Up Below Sea Level: A Kibbutz Childhood (2020), and What Now? Two-Minute Tips for Solving Common Parenting Challenges (2020), and as co-author of a joint with her husband, David Biale: Aerograms Across the Ocean: A Love Story in Letter, 1970-72.She has lived in Berkeley, CA since 1986 with her husband, David Biale Z"L, raising their two children there.
