Andrew Murray nació el 9 de mayo de 1828 en Graaff-Reinet (El Cabo, Sudáfrica). Partio hacia su Patria Celestial pocos meses antes de cumplir los 89 el 18 de Enero de 1917. Andrew Murray was born on May 9, 1828, in Graaff-Reinet (cape Province, South Africa). His father was a pastor affiliated with the Scottish Presbyterian Church, which in turn maintained close ties with the Dutch Reformed Church--a church he helped revitalize with his fervent Scottish Christian spirit. This remarkable man dedicated Friday evenings to praying for a spiritual revival in South Africa. His parents sent him to study in his native Scotland at the University of Aberdeen. He also studied at the University of Utrecht (Netherlands), where, at the age of 16, he experienced the new birth. In 1848, at just 20 years old, he was ordained into the ministry of the Dutch Reformed Church. He pastored various South African churches in Bloemfontein (1850-60), Worcester (1860-64), Cape Town (1864-71), and Wellington (1871-1906). In 1879, he suffered from a throat infection and lost his voice for nearly two years, from which he was healed at the Bethshan home in London. As a result of this experience, he came to believe that, according to the Bible, the miraculous gifts of the Spirit were not limited to the early Church alone. Like other teachers of holiness and victorious living, he referred to the baptism of the Holy Spirit as an experience that follows regeneration. For him, the way one is baptized can vary greatly: a joyful renewal of faith, a special spiritual sensitivity, a deep and quiet awareness of God, or an intense devotion to the Lord. He departed for his Heavenly Homeland on January 18, 1917, just months shy of his 89th birthday.
