The first question one might ask is: why is an Englishman who has never been able to vote in Germany concerned about or even interested in Angela Merkel? I have two reasons. The first question one might ask is: why is an Englishman who has never been able to vote in Germany concerned about or even interested in Angela Merkel? I have two reasons. My first reason is that I have grandchildren here in Germany who are affected by what happens here politically. The second reason is that I can no longer stand the hymns of praise that keep emphasising how great Merkel was as head of government. The facts and the current state of the country show that Merkel was one of the worst leaders Germany has had since the end of the Second World War. She managed to lead the Germans into a sphere of total complacency, convincing them that everything was perfect until things started to fall apart. Then she resigned. She was even given the title 'Mutti' (Mummy) to give the impression that she had everything under control. It has since become clear that one of the largest nations in the world, a technological giant and the most important economic power in Europe, needed a different kind of leader than a 'Mutti'. Merkel has recently published her autobiography and benefits financially from the praise she receives from this mystical aura of success. However, this book has now created an environment in which experts are beginning to debate the mistakes she has made and the problems she left behind, attributing these issues to her time in office. In my book, I try to shed more light on these problems in order to break through the myth that Merkel created during her time in office. If these problems are not sufficiently analysed and corrected, there is a danger that Germany's decline will continue and Merkel's shadow will still influence the path Germany must take. The book is structured so I try to describe each important topic in detail, which sometimes leads to repetition when it comes to analysing the causes of the problem. However, this creates a structure that makes it unnecessary to read through the entire book to understand each problem. If you are interested in a topic, you can go straight to that chapter, which contains a complete analysis of the problem.
