Alice Day Pratt (1872–1963) was a teacher and author who at age forty joined the last wave of government-sponsored homesteading, establishing a dryland farm in Oregon’s high desert country. She was the author of four books including her memoir, A Homesteader’s Portfolio (OSU Press). Kurt Wiese (1887–1974) was an author and illustrator of more than three hundred children’s books. Rosanne Parry is the author of many middle grade novels and picture books, including The New York Times best-selling A Wolf Called Wander. She lives in a historic farmhouse in Portland, Oregon, and writes in a treehouse in her backyard.
