Fern Best, an accomplished author, playwright, educator, and proud "Bajan to de bone," has cultivated exactly such an environment through her innovative use of storytelling to bring concepts to life, particularly in primary education.Throughout her teaching career primarily at Hindsbury Primary School, Barbados, Fern was guided by professional mentor Dr. Sylvia Henry head of the arbados Literary Task Force, and encouraged by visionary principals like Marcia Graham and the late Nola Cummings-Lewis. Their unwavering support nurtured her passion for writing, theatre arts, and cultural integration, fostering a dynamic learning atmosphere. Fern's creative contributions extend far beyond the classroom. She has written and directed numerous performances for schools at the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA), while also collaborating with the Department of Community Development on several initiatives that used the arts to promote literacy. Now living in Canada with her family, Fern continues to make an impact in higher education, blending her deep roots in creative arts with her dedication to fostering a new generation of learners.
