The Harnessed Moth (Apantesis phalerata) is a species of moth of the Arctiidae family. It is found from Ontario, Quebec and Maine to Florida, west to Texas, north to South Dakota. The wingspan is 30 42 mm. The moths fly from May to September depending on the location. The larvae feed on Trifolium, Spartina, Taraxacum, and Plantago species, as well as other low-growing plants. A moth is an insect closely related to the butterfly, both being of the order Lepidoptera. Moths form the majority of this order; there are thought to be 150,000 to 250,000 different species of moth (about ten times the number of species of butterfly), with thousands of species yet to be described.
