However, fans have criticized the animation for its timing and design problems, which actually make the animation in The Twelve Tasks of Asterix stand out as better and more coherent with Uderzo's characteristic style. Also, the dramatic story style has been said to diminish much of the sophisticated humour from the original books. The plot was adapted primarily from the books Asterix the Legionary and Asterix the Gladiator by Goscinny and Uderzo's friend Pierre Tchernia.
