Facial asymmetry is a three-dimensional facial deformity having multiple etiologies. Complete and thorough knowledge of the etiological factors, the progressive nature of the asymmetry plays a crucial role in formulating a treatment plan.7 In spite of being highly prevalent in the overall population, facial asymmetry is scarcely addressed in dental literature. There is a lack of epidemiological studies, as well as histological and genetic research aiming at determining the real etiology and the factors associated with such disharmony. It significantly affects patient's smile and esthetics and its correction is a major challenge posed to clinicians. Should it be of mild or severe magnitude, asymmetry needs intense orthodontic/orthopedic correction combined or not with orthognathic surgery.17 Growth and development of the individual and timing of intervention is the single most important factor affecting the stability of results in any form of asymmetry. Severe relapses could occurif the exact cause of asymmetry is overlooked and treatment is attempted before completion of growth. Therefore, it should be highlighted that knowledge of facial asymmetry deserves special attending.
