It was some years ago that Edmund Fitzgerald first wrote these stories. Many of them were published in his original anthology, 5 O'Clock Cow, after he won the National Rigby Award for Humour (coming in ahead of celebrated Australian writer, Colin Thiele who was the runner up). Others are published here for the first time. The stories throughout the anthology have broad appeal and would easily translate into short films, vignettes that speak to how the Australian sense of humour has evolved. Along with Geoff Pryor's accompanying illustrations, this book is a unique snapshot of how Australian culture viewed the world in the mid-twentieth century.
