ANDREW REYNOLDS, Reader in Medieval Archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology, UCL, had directed research excavation and fieldwork in the Avebury region since 1991, concentration on the post-Roman, Anglo-Saxon and medieval archaeology of the area. He is the author of Later Anglo-Saxon England (The History Press). JOSHUA POLLARD, Reader in Archaeology at the University of Bristol, has been involved in the excavation and publication of major Neolithic sites around Avebury, including the Beckhampton Avenue (rediscovered in 1999).
