European and global migration relations with their specific patterns and spatial movements are the subject of wide-ranging observations with their interdependencies and conflict-laden socio-cultural debates. The debate around 2015 about the global refugee issue, its significance for the European Union and therefore also for Austria and Germany as countries of migration, has led to growing interest in the topic.For civic education and intercultural competence in teaching - didactics/teacher training and adult education, the reference arises from the challenges in the respective area. Diversity, phenomena of an ageing society, reasons for migration movements in conflict zones, climate change, educational and economic issues. Complex and interconnected questions of a knowledge society in Europe (and the world) require consideration of the changes in migration conditions. Migration research since the 1990s has highlighted the changes in migration movements (immigration, emigration, internal migration, flight - asylum - expulsion, types of migration - state action and political debates).
