"Still in awe and with a quiet sense of relief, I returned to the adult psych unit the following day, changed." Cassandra was not expected to survive anorexia, let alone make a complete recovery, but she did. Beautiful Light, therefore, offers a message of hope. Not the typical "recovery is possible" message-although that is certainly true. Remarkably, Beautiful Light speaks of a life-giving hope. Hope that light can break through, inner life can be found and holistic recovery can prove absolutely worthwhile. Whether you have anorexia, are a health professional or a caregiver, Cassandra's story and insights on anorexia, spirituality and recovery, will cultivate understanding and impart tangible hope. Cassandra believes, "No one is beyond help, and everyone is worthy of it. Irrespective of how bleak it may seem, there's an incredible path full of life before each of us."
Cassandra Alane is a writer, wife, mother and foster carer, living in the beautiful City of Lake Macquarie, Australia. She has a background in nursing and training in mental health first aid and ministry.Passionate about seeing others set free, with ten years lived experience of anorexia, Cassandra also advocates for people with eating disorders through statewide health committees, online networks, giving talks and interviews. The local ABC radio station has even aired her story. Along with advocacy work, Cassandra loves the beach, supporting Fairtrade, all creatures great and small, good coffee and exploring local tracks around the bush and bay. "It has been one of the greatest joys life affords to see her recover, grow, flourish, and build her life, friendships, family, work and passions. She is in every way an inspiration, and I hope this book allows many more people to understand that and to share in the hope and light Cassandra brings."Professor Sarah Maguire, OAM, Clinical Psychologist and Director of the InsideOut Institute, Sydney.
