The truth is not always beautiful. But survival always is. In this intimate graphic memoir, author Angela Priso uses minimalist vignettes to chronicle a life marked by the relentless cost of womanhood: from the social intrusion of developing breasts and the chaos of young adulthood, to the ultimate, life-altering attack of a cancer diagnosis. You will witness the disorienting fear of the hospital, the betrayal of your own body, and the incredible challenge of keeping a secret while the world spins on. Told with radical honesty and dark humor, this is the story of how Angela navigated dismissal and trauma in the medical system to discover a fierce, spiritual resilience. This book is a testament to the transformative courage found not in titles, but in the unwavering human spirit. It is a necessary read for anyone who has fought a battle that words alone cannot carry. Because They're Just Boobs After All is a powerful graphic memoir by Angela D. Priso that blends honesty, artistry, and humor to tell a story of survival and self-acceptance. Through minimalist imagery and deeply personal reflection, Angela reclaims her body and identity after breast cancer, transforming pain into purpose. This book is both an intimate narrative of healing and a love letter to resilience - a reminder that beauty, courage, and femininity can be redefined on your own terms.
Autorenporträt
is a children's book author whose vibrant stories reflect both her African American roots and her connection to Central and West African traditions. Born and raised in Gary, Indiana, Angela's lifelong passion for storytelling was deepened by her nearly two-decade career in pediatrics medical imaging. This background fueled her desire to craft globally minded books that affirm identity and spark curiosity in young readers. She holds both a bachelor's and a master's degree in Radiologic Sciences and credits her medical career for the discipline she brings to her writing. Her latest children's release, Tutu and Her Little Big Moves, celebrates energy and expression. While accustomed to crafting narratives for children, Angela's core affinity for using visual language led her to create her first memoir offering, Because They're Just Boobs After All. This shift in genre reflects her commitment to empowering readers of all ages to confront difficult realities with resilience. Her decision to use a minimalist, vignette-style graphic memoir format stems directly from the visual clarity honed over years in medical imaging and the belief that the body's story is often best told through pictures. Inspired by global travels and the rich Central African heritage of her husband, Jean-Pierre, Angela blends lived experience with research to craft books rich in cultural authenticity. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, and the Indiana Cameroonian Association. Angela remains committed to empowering those who read her pages-whether as a child seeing themselves as a leader, or as an adult recognizing their own journey of survival. You can learn more at angelapriso.com
