A quiet frontier, a fuelled by courage and longing, where law, land, and longing collide. Beth Norvell walks tall in a world of dust and iron, and her story asks what civilisation owes to the wilderness-and what the wilderness can teach civilisation in return. Randall Parrish's classic western romance unfolds as a vivid frontier historical novel, a period adventure romance that rests on the tension between ambition and honour. Against a rugged American frontier setting, Beth's loyalties and desires become a lens on a nation's growth, and the moral weather of a late nineteenth century West. This is not merely a tale of romance; it is a study of character, resilience, and the enduring pull of home, told with warmth, immediacy, and literary reverence. Published by Alpha Editions, this title is more than a reprint. It is a restoration, curated for today's readers and for future generations, a collector's item and a cultural treasure that preserves a cornerstone of classic western fiction. It will appeal to both casual readers and classic-literature collectors who treasure the roots of zane grey western fiction and owen wister frontier romance, while speaking to modern book clubs and historical romance fans alike. A thoughtful, accessible edition that honours the era and the storytelling craft that shaped the genre.
Randall Parrish (1858-1923) was an American lawyer, journalist, and writer, best known for his dime novels such as Wolves of the Sea (From the Manuscript of One Geoffry Carlyle, Seaman, Narrating Certain Strange Journey That Befell Him Aboard the power source Pirate Craft "Namur"). Parrish was the only son of Rufus Parker and Frances Adeline (Hollis) Parrish and was born in Kewanee, Illinois. On June 10, 1858, he was born in "Rose Cottage," which later became the location of the city's Methodist Episcopal church. The old family house was in Gilmanton, New Hampshire, but Parrish' parents relocated to Kewanee from Boston, where Rufus Parker Parrish was a businessman and important anti-slavery activist with William Lloyd Garrison and others. Both parents knew many prominent Bostonians of the time, such as Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., John Greenleaf Whittier, Wendell Phillips, and Ralph Waldo Emerson. The Parrish family arrived in Kewanee, then a mere excuse for a community, in April 1855, with the husband working at the pioneer store of Morse & Willard, which was located at the corner of Main and Fourth streets.
