A tale of daring hearts and distant diplomacy, Beverly Of Graustark sweeps you into a world where romance and royal intrigue collide with the clang of early twentieth-century politics. This classic romance novel blends high stakes and intimate longing as a young adventurer navigates a fictional eastern European kingdom, where love must contend with social expectations, factional strife, and the lure of adventure. McCutcheon paints a vivid panorama-sparkling society, shadowed corridors of power, and a romance that grows across borders and banners-inviting readers to feel the pulse of an era while following a plot that moves with the precision of a well-tought programme. It is a story of courage, cleverness, and the costly costs of standing by one's principles. Historically significant and beloved by generations of fans of historical romance, this edition honours the original charm while restoring language, cadence, and sensibilities for today's readers. It invites both casual readers and classic-literature collectors to rediscover a landmark in early twentieth-century fiction: a romance of personality and place that resonates as strongly now as it did then. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions, Beverly Of Graustark is more than a reprint - a collector's item and a cultural treasure, crafted to endure for future generations of readers. It speaks to lovers of royal romance intrigue and social-class relationships with the same clarity, warmth, and persistent optimism that have welcomed McCutcheon's enduring legacy.
George Barr McCutcheon was a famous American author who lived from July 26, 1866, to October 23, 1928. A group of books set in Graustark, a made-up country in East Europe, and the book Brewster's Millions, which was turned into a play and several movies, are his most well-known works. He was born in Indiana's Tippecanoe County. Even though he didn't go to school, his father stressed the value of literature and encouraged his boys to write. During McCutcheon's childhood, his dad had a few jobs that needed him to go to different places in the county. McCutcheon went to Purdue University and shared a room with George Ade, who would later become a comedian. He was editor of the newspaper Lafayette Daily Courier and wrote a satirical serial book about life on the Wabash River while he was in college. He died in Manhattan, New York City, New York. His brother was the famous artist John T. McCutcheon of that name. A lot of Indiana writers from the same time as McCutcheon are thought to be part of the Golden Age of Indiana Literature.
