The book is written in a poetic and descriptive style, with vivid imagery and a deep appreciation for the natural world. Hudson's love for birds is evident throughout the book, and he encourages readers to observe and appreciate these creatures in their own environments. Overall, Birds In Town And Village is a fascinating and informative read for anyone interested in birds, nature, or the relationship between humans and the natural world.Just out of hearing of the grasshopper warblers, there was a good-sized pool of water on the common, probably an old gravel-pit, its bottom now overgrown with rushes. A sedge warbler, the only one on the common, lived in the masses of bramble and gorse on its banks; and birds of so many kinds came to it to drink and bathe that the pool became a favourite spot with me. One evening, just before sunset, as I lingered near it, a pied wagtail darted out of some low scrub at my feet and fluttered, as if wounded, over the turf for a space of ten or twelve yards before flying away. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Autorenporträt
W. H. Hudson was a British biologist, ornithologist, and author who lived from 1841 to 1922. Hudson, who was born in Argentina to British parents, spent a large portion of his youth travelling and learning about the flora and animals of South America. In his early twenties, he came to England and took a job as a clerk. Despite this, he continued to write about nature and in 1892, "The Naturalist in La Plata," his first book, was published. After that, Hudson published numerous other books about the natural environment, including "British Birds" and "Idle Days in Patagonia." He is most well-known, however, for his books, including "Green Mansions" and "The Purple Land," which merged his love of the outdoors with his prowess as a writer. The grandeur and mystique of the wilderness were beautifully and evocatively captured in Hudson's writing, which was praised for its in-depth and evocative depictions of the natural environment. He was also a forerunner in the conservation movement and a proponent of preserving endangered species' habitats.
