R. JOHNS (Rosemary) has a First-Class Honours Drama degree (Manchester University), an MFA from U.C.R. and won a scholarship to Tulane University, New Orleans. Her work has been presented in Cape Town, Stockholm and Mumbai, and her plays have been produced in New Zealand, Athens and Germany. Her political thriller Black Box 149 was part of DFAT's Australia now Germany program. It was the first time the Staatstheater Nÿrnberg has ever produced a play by any Australian playwright. Her World War I play As Told by the Boys Who Fed Me Apples (VCE Drama playlist) was nominated for an AWGIE Award for Community and Youth theatre. The sell-out play Stray was also on the VCE Drama playlist. Johns was shortlisted for the Griffin Playwriting Award with The Birthday Book of Death. Her play At the Centre of Light had an extract published in Scenes from a Diverse World Anthology (US). Her play Carrying Shoes into the Unknown (VCE Theatre Studies playlist), set in Iran, was published Currency Press, with an extract in Contemporary Monologues for Young Men and Women: Volume II (Oberon Books, UK). Other works include Luck of the Draw, about Australian Vietnam veterans. Johns also writes plays for students in rural Victoria.
