Saleem Mushtaq a obtenu son doctorat au Centre de recherche pour le développement de l'université du Cachemire, à Srinagar, en Inde. Au cours de son doctorat, il a travaillé sur le thème "Bioprospection de plantes médicinales sélectionnées et leur rôle dans le contrôle de la mammite bovine". Ses recherches actuelles portent sur l'exploration des produits naturels à la recherche de métabolites bioactifs.
