Margaret Dardess has always loved stories, especially about people who came beforeher and events that happened in the past. That love led her to study history in collegeand graduate school. After a varied career as an attorney, corporate executive, anduniversity administrator, and following publication of her first book, BRUTAL SILENCE,a thriller, she is writing historical fiction for kids.BOWERS AND SHADY, her first children's novel, is a middle-grade adventure, writtenfor readers, ages 10 through 13. Set in the fictitious town of Green Valley, Colorado onthe eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains in the post-Civil War era, it is the story offriendship between a thirteen-year-old Iowa farm boy and an orphaned Irish girl on amission to find a magic pocket watch.Margaret was inspired to write BOWERS AND SHADY after delighting in the rediscoveyof a well-worn a little book of stories her grandmother had written for her as a childabout her friendship with a boy named Bowers.
