Being among the top majors of the crude oil & gas extraction industry, BP had to face during the last two years the worst accident which could happen, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The strategies of its 3 SBUs have been reviewed and commented, generating recommendations at SBU and corporate level. The Extraction & Production segment (SBU1) needs to review its safety measures and implement a more ambitious policy. The Refining & Marketing segment (SBU2) is concentrating on the reorganization of its refining strategy, notably in the US. The Alternative Energy segment (SBU3) is providing good business thus is recommended to continue investing in bio-fuels and wind energy. At corporate level, BP has to manage carefully the spill trial to be held at the beginning of 2013 in New Orleans.
