A children's comedy adventure about a boy called Finn who has a brain that is too big for his head. One night a part of his brain leaks out and over the course of the day it grows into a fully formed exact clone of Finn. The clone is named 'Twin' and is an instant hit at school when he puts some unsavoury characters firmly in their place. When Twin tricks his way into becoming the Prime Minister of Great Britain all seems rosy and Finn and all his friends move to London to become part of Twin's government. However, it does not take long before Twin starts to change, he is all brain and no heart. Twin sees all the wrong in the world and hatches a plan for world domination. Human civilization is under threat and it is up to Finn and his friends to stop Twin. B'sghetti is written with humour as a key element throughout. It contains 100 hand drawn illustrations that bring the book to life and make it impossible not to engage with the story and characters. It is creative, funny, exciting and unpredictable but the most important element in this book is by far the characters in it. The friendship group the book centres around contains 6 characters that are wildly differing in their personalities. They each bring human characteristics that are promoted as equal to just 'academic intelligence', this enables all readers to feel inclusion and acceptance in whoever they are.
Autorenporträt
Mark James is an author and illustrator of children's picture books and novels. In 2019, following the birth of his first child, Mark wrote his first picture book 'Pet Sounds'. The book was inspired by Mark's first passion, music. It follows a group of animals trying to find a guitarist for their band. This book turned out to be the start of something Mark had not been expecting. In 2020, Mark took 5 characters from his first book and wrote 5 spin-off books, creating his 'What a...' series. The titles include, 'What a Lazy Koala!', 'What a Fiery Dragon!', 'What a Snappy Crocodile!', 'What a Greedy Pig!', and 'What an Angry Tiger!'In 2021, following the release of his second child, Mark wrote his last picture book 'Rain has stopped play'. The book featured both his children and was unconsciously inspired by his second child being a lockdown baby. The story follows two brothers who are forced to stay inside on a rainy day and use their imaginations to stave off boredom. In 2022, Mark wrote his debut children's novel, by accident. 'The trials of Christmas' centres around the idea of Santa putting children on trial to find out whether they are naughty or nice. It had been intended to be a picture book like all his others but soon became apparent that it needed to be far longer. The book was nevertheless fully illustrated.Mark James' illustrations are extremely vibrant and full of joy and colour, engaging readers young and old to immerse themselves within his books. Every part of every single illustration in every book is completely hand drawn and lovingly crafted to sing out from the pages and to work in perfect harmony with the story. The two go hand in hand. After 'Pet Sounds' was published in 2020 through a hybrid publishing method, Mark decided that this was not a method that he wanted to move forward with, and all books were then exclusive to his children alone. Then, using a combination of stupidity and impatience, Mark decided to self-publish all 8 books in 2024. Mark James will never publish 8 books in 1 year ever again, as this proved to be a very foolhardy endeavour, and he would not advise anyone else to attempt a similar approach. Especially as this also entailed writing and producing a song for each book and then a video to go with these songs.Humour is at the heart of all of Mark's books. But they all also offer moral lessons and guidance for all children to help them to become wonderfully creative, kind and curious human beings.
